The left have been vocal in (rightly) condemning clerical abuse, but they have remained shamefully silent about disturbing revelations of pedophilia in their own ranks. Worse, too many on the rainbow left seem determined to normalise pedophilia as "just another sexual orientation". No matter which side of politics you’re on, kiddy-fiddlers should never be welcome.

Recently, three high-profile Twitter users have been pilloried in the court of digital opinion. Two made crass jokes, the other vomited years of racist abuse. While the jokers found their careers abruptly aborted, the racist has been promoted to the pinnacle of her career.

The campaign against the promised same-sex marriage plebiscite is anti-democratic and infantilises its opponents. It's also sadly symptomatic of what gay-rights activist Andrew Sullivan calls "the obvious and ugly intolerance of parts of the gay movement". The bizarrely anti-democratic idea that the possible hurt feelings of one segment of the polity should override the democratic process is the authoritarianism of the offended.
